As announced by the government, from February 2021 tyres aged 10 years and above will be banned on the front axes of lorries, coaches and buses.
The following rules will soon apply;
It will be illegal to fit tyres aged 10 years and above to:
- The front axle of a goods vehicle with a maximum gross weight exceeding 3,500kg.
- The front axle of a bus or coach – including minibuses.
- The rear axle of a minibus with single rear wheels fitted.
Tyres ages 10 years and older will become a failure item at an annual test. If identified on roadside enforcement, the vehicles will issue a prohibition and the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) will conduct a follow up investigation.
