There are a few steps that you need to take to become a qualified HGV driver and this will involve HGV Driver Training Courses.

The first step seems kind of obvious, and that is to acquire a car driving licence. As I said, it may seem obvious, but you would be surprised how many people overlook this step. It is an important step as to be an HGV driver, you are building on your experience as a driver. (source)

After you have your car driving licence the next step is to apply for a provisional lorry driving licence. This is done through the DVLA and you need to fill in a D4 form. This is a medical form, as HGV drivers, need to be in fairly good health. This can cost a fair amount, fro £50-£120, so just be aware that this process can be costly. You need to send the completed D4 and D2 form to the DVLA who will then assess your fitness to drive an HGV vehicle. (source)

After this is the CPC test which is a four-part theory test. This plays a part in getting your full Lorry driving licence. Make sure that you prepare for the test and have all the required documents so that you can take the test. The cost for this test is around £230. A little hint, you will need 35 hours of CPC training every five years in order to remain qualified, it isn’t something that you can let lapse. (source)
